Social Networking
Social Networking can help promote businesses and spread information of special interest groups. Professional recruiters have used social networking such as facebook to channel candidates. Langfitt's article (1) states that Linkedin, a network of 8 million professionals across the world including executives of all the 500 Fortune companies, helps search out possible jobs and positions available. A recruiter or applicant can search keywords and phrases to narrow out high quality candidates and positions. Any user of Linkedin can update their privacy controls to limit what the public see. The key to increased profile views is showing the kew words that companies are looking for. Additionally, a persons Rolodex can be shared to anyone to help branch out. However, there is a dark side to social networking. According to Stout's article (2) social media is actually antisocial networking. Texting and messaging has lead students and young adults to less face to face communication. No real emotion is expressed through texting and there is worry about the intellectual development of users. Exchanges and dialect is more superficial and more public than ever. Furthermore, cyber bullying and and sexting has lead to further uproar amongst households, destroying relationships. I think in the future social networking will be more prevalent. People will only rely on the screens as means of forming relationships.
